Deagon Deviation Overpass Bridge Girder Lift

Have you seen the new bridge structure over the Gateway Motorway at Deagon?

In December 2017 the project installed the final bridge girders for the new Deagon Deviation overpass bridge.

The 90 tonne girders were lifted into position by dual crane lifts. The project team used two cranes to undertake the installation of the bridge girders – a 500 tonne crane situated behind the bridge abutments and a 350 tonne crane placed in the motorway centre median.

The team worked hard to complete the girder lifts over a number of night shifts, and ensuring the Gateway Motorway was open again in time for morning commuters.

The installation of the bridge beams is another significant milestone for the project and a major step towards completion of the future interchange. The bridge, which is expected to open to traffic in mid-2018, will carry future northbound traffic, heading towards Redcliffe, over the Gateway Motorway – allowing an uninterrupted and safer movement.

The project achieved many milestones throughout 2017, some of which are highlighted in our 2017 Year In Review video here.
